Akelaland Summer Resident Camp requires:

Anyone 18 years and older, is required to be registered in the Boy Scouts of America, secure PA Act 15 clearances, and successfully complete Youth Protection Training. This applies to parent(s)/guardian(s) attending (overnight long term campers) with their son, as well as leaders attending with their Pack.

  • Why?  As an individual parent/guardian (camper/non-camper) with your son, your parent/unit leader responsibilities include:

    1. Acting in lieu of or on behalf of a parent providing care, supervision, guidance or control of children.

    2. Having regular contact with children that is integral to your parent/unit leader participation responsibilities.

  • What if I am only visiting my scout, do I still need to be registered?

    • If you are a parent or guardian of a Scout attending Akelaland.  You are welcome to visit your Scout for the day.  Simply, follow the camp rules by checking in at the Health Lodge to receive a visitor badge and sign in/out. If having meals, a one time daily fee applies $$. Best practice would be for ALL parents/guardians to take Youth Protection Training regardless of their role or non-role in Scouting.

  • What if I am a visitor and will be acting in lieu of or on behalf of a parent providing care, supervision, guidance or control of children?

    • You are required to be registered in the Boy Scouts of America, secure PA Act 15 Clearances and complete Youth Protection Training.

  • What if my son is a Lion Scout now and will be crossing over on June 1 into Tigers.  Can he attend summer resident camp with our Pack?

    • Yes, he is eligible to attend.  However, since a Tiger Parent is required to be with their participating scout at all times, the parent is considered an adult participant.  However, as outlined above, the role of the adult changes because of summer camp and will be required to register in the BSA, secure PA Act 15 clearances, and successfully complete Youth Protection training.

  • What if my son is a Tiger Scout now and will be crossing over on June 1 into Wolf.  Can he attend summer resident camp with our Pack?

    • Yes, he is eligible to attend.  At this point, the parent is not considered a participant anymore, therefore he or she would be required to become registered in the BSA, secure PA Act 15 clearances, and successfully complete Youth Protection training.

    • If the parent is not coming to summer camp, no need to registered unless they take on a leadership or committee member role within the pack. i.e committee member, den leader etc.  Please refer to your Committee Chair or Cubmaster for further details.

  • Who do I turn my BSA Adult Application, PA Act 15 Clearances, and Youth Protection Certification into?

    • All of this paperwork needs to be turned into your Cubmaster or Pack Committee Chair prior to your arrival of your week at camp.

  • What if I reside outside of Pennsylvania?

    • If you are a parent or guardian who resides outside of Pennsylvania, however the unit is located in Pennsylvania.  You are required to be registered in your youths unit of the Boy Scouts of America, secure PA Act 15 Clearances and successfully complete Youth Protection Training.  If visitor, see above questions regarding visitors.
    • If you are a parent or guardian who resides outside of Pennsylvania and the unit is located outside of Pennsylvania.  You are not required to secure PA ACT 15 Clearances.  You are considered an out of state visitor. However, you are required to be registered in your home BSA council and have Youth Protection Certification.
