Eligible: Current Boy Scouts of America registered adults.  Current Boy Scouts of America youth 15 years of age and older and who have completed either Shotgun Merit Badge or NRA Shotgun Basic.

Short Description: This 16-hour course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Shotgun Shooting course.

More Details: Prerequisite: Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a perquisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises. 

Description: Course is presented in two parts: Basic Instructor Training, and discipline specific instructor training. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, NRA Shotgun Shooting Instructor Candidate Packet and NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting course student packet.

  • 6:30 PM Friday Check in at the Ad Pad.
  • BIT (Basic Instructor Training) Friday 7:00PM to 10:00PM & Saturday 7:00PM to 10:00PM Required unless recently completed
  • Shotgun Instructor Saturday 9:00AM to 6:00PM
  • Sunday 9:00AM to 5:00PM, class will be done at noon, followed by qualification shooting.
  • Qualification shooting – All candidates must complete qualification shooting, Sunday afternoon.
• Tenting is available if needed at Staff Site Friday - Sunday. Showers are available at this time of the year.  Please bring your tent and all gear.  
• Meals not included. There are places near by for breakfast or dinner. We suggest you bring a bagged Lunch for Saturday and Sunday.
