Let's Get Ready for Camp!

1. First, talk with your son about camp.  To help make this a positive and successful experience, emphasize with your son how excited you are to send him to camp!  If you have any positive memories of camping as a child, share them with your son.  You can remind them that you will be there to pick them up at the end of the week, but do not remind them of how much you will miss them (or siblings & pets will miss them!).  If a child feels guilty leaving you for the week, they are more likely to be homesick.

2. Make sure to schedule your child's physical and have the camp medical form completed prior to camp.  Your child must have a physical within 12 months of coming to camp.  Children without a health form will be sent home.  Have your child's medicines packaged in their original bottles (or a pill organizer with a doctor's note explaining what medicines your child should be taking).  No one may keep any medicine in their camp site with the exception of rescue medications (inhalers, epi-pens, nitroglycerin).  Our staff has 24 hour emergency medical care available.  Your child's medications will be under lock at all times, and the health officer will contact leaders and have children who do not come for their medications on time.

3. If you are staying with your son for the week, you must also have a medical form with a physical from within the last 12 months.  No one may stay without a physical.  Your medications will also need to be locked in the health lodge.  All adults staying in camp must also complete the online Youth Protection training.  Please print a copy of your card for your pack's records.  Anyone who has not completed Youth Protection training in the last 5 years must do so immediately or leave camp.

4. Pack for camp!  Help your child make certain they have clothing available for all possible weather.  We often have cold mornings, so many Scouts start the day with a sweatshirt.  Don't forget your child's sleeping bag and pillow! Ask your pack how they wish your child to be dressed upon arrival at camp.  Most packs like to have their boys dressed in uniforms with their swim trunks underneath.

5. Plan to arrive on time!  Meet up with your pack in camp.  It is difficult for a pack to register unless they have everyone present, so please make certain that you know what time to arrive.  Check in starts at  1:00 pm, but your Cub Pack might be assigned a later time.
